Overview

Zhuhai is one of China's original Special Economic Zones and, unusually for a boomtown, has kept a low-rise, green, breezy feel. It borders Macau along a busy land crossing at Gongbei.

The biggest draw is Chimelong Ocean Kingdom — one of the world's largest ocean theme parks — while Lovers' Road and the outlying islands offer calmer seaside time.

First-timer's checklist: Chimelong Ocean Kingdom · Lovers' Road · Gongbei border · Hengqin island · island seafood
